The 12:12 portal is the name numerology and spiritual circles give to 12 December, the day the date reads 12/12. In 2026 it falls on Saturday 12 December, nine days before the winter solstice. People who mark it see it as the close of a cycle: the twelfth day of the twelfth month, in the last weeks of the year. Astaran has released a universal sign on this date twice, in 2022 and in 2024.
Why is 12 December called a portal?
A “portal” date is a day whose numbers repeat: 1:11, 11:11, 12:12. In numerology each number carries a meaning, and a repeated number is read as that meaning turned up. Twelve closes the calendar year, so 12:12 is read as completion and as the threshold before something new. Numerology also adds the digits together: 1 + 2 gives 3, a number many people link with creativity and expression.
The idea is modern. It spread online and drew wide attention on 12 December 2012, when the date read 12/12/12. That exact date only comes once a century, while 12:12 itself comes back every year.
The number 12 in calendars and stories
Twelve shows up wherever people divide a whole into parts. There are 12 months in the year, 12 hours on a clock face and 12 signs in the zodiac. The Chinese calendar counts 12 Earthly Branches with their 12 animals. The Bible names 12 tribes of Israel and 12 apostles, and Greek myth has 12 Olympian gods. That is one reason 12 so often stands for a complete set.
What 12:12 means to the people who mark it
For those who work with the date, 12:12 is a moment to look at the year that is ending and let go of what is done. It is also used to set one clear intention for the cycle ahead, before the winter solstice turns the light. These are beliefs, and what you do with the date is up to you.
