The 1:11 portal is the name numerology and spiritual circles give to 11 January, the day the date reads 1/11. In 2027 it falls on Monday 11 January, three weeks after the winter solstice. People who mark it see it as the first portal of the new year: a date for starting, after the closing dates of December. Sacred Signs has no sign for 1:11 yet.
Why is 11 January called a portal?
A “portal” date is a day whose numbers repeat, such as 1:11, 11:11 and 12:12. In numerology the number 1 stands for beginnings and the self, and 11 is read as a “master number” linked with intuition. On 1/11 the one is repeated three times, so people read the date as a beginning turned up. Some also count 1 + 1 + 1 = 3, which numerology links with expression.
The idea is modern and spread online, in the same way as the better-known 11:11, which falls ten months later on 11 November.
What 1:11 means to the people who mark it
For those who work with the date, 1:11 is a moment to choose one thing to begin in the new year and to say it out loud or write it down. After 12:12 and the solstice, which many people use to close and let go, 1:11 is used to start. These are beliefs, and what you do with the date is up to you.
A card for the first portal of the year
If you work with the Sacred Signs Oracle Deck, draw one card on 11 January and ask: “What do I want to begin?” Write down the card and your first thought. Keep the note until the spring equinox on 20 March and read it again then. The deck has 74 cards with silver foil sacred geometry and a 185-page booklet.
Between the solstice and 1:11
The three weeks between the winter solstice on 21 December and 1:11 hold Christmas and New Year. Many people treat them as a quiet stretch to rest before starting anything new. Our signs for the solstice, Winter Solstice 2022 and Winter Solstice 2024, are on the solstice page.
Each Universal Sign is offered as a gift to the collective. You can take one from the Universal Signs library, and if a sign means something to you, you can give back on the donation page.
